Police goes for fifth straight win

In its previous outing in the Courts All Sectors Netball League before the Carnival break, Police was unstoppable with a huge 47-19 victory over Jabloteh in its Championship Division match at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya and today the team in grey and blue return to the court aiming to seal its fifth win from as many matches.

Bermudez will be Police's opponent and it is seeking to bounce back from its lone loss before the pause. The action will take place at the same venue with the teams meeting at 6.45 pm, following the opening match between Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) and Defence Force from 5.30 pm.

Police with efficient shooters Jeselle Navarro and Giselle Norton and more recently Donessa Wickham, has been dominating the division since the start of the League, overcoming Las Lomas (36-29), TSTT (39-37), Defence Force (38-29) and as mentioned before Jabloteh, to sit on top of the eight-team competition with eight points.

Wickham, in her team's last two matches, was the leading scorer with 24 goals off 31 attempts against Defence Force and 26 in 36 versus second-to-last Jabloteh.

Both Bermudez and UTC have six points but the latter, who is in second place, holds a better goal difference of 25 compared to third-place Bermudez's 14.

Bermudez has wins over Defence Force (34-23), Fire (34-31), Jabloteh (36-35) and a loss after being edged by one goal (42-41) versus Las Lomas.

Its leading shooters include Makeda De Freitas and Indra Anderson, who Bermudez will look to this evening, to cause an upset against the policewomen.

On the weekend, round two action in the Premiership Division begins with leader Fire with six points aiming to remain unbeaten. The firewomen will be challenged by second-place Police Youth Club (PYC), which has four points form two wins and a loss, at 3 pm and later the University of T&T (UTT), which is third (two points) will meet last-place University of the West Indies (UWI) at 5.30 pm.
